MISSION HOUSTON PRAYER TARGETS: June 09


We are asking for the social and spiritual transformation and revitalization of greater Houston - each person, neighborhood, and community.

PRAYER REQUEST #1: Transformation of the Public Schools


  1. •10 Schools “Adopted” for 2009-2010 - In 2008-2009 there were 7 schools “adopted” under the Whole & Healthy Children initiative in 5 school districts.  Pray for CSA teams to persevere in their commitment to these 7 schools, and for the believers in Bellaire-Southwest, Cy-Fair, and N. Channel to adopt one additional elementary school in their CSA for the 2009-2010 school year.


  1. •200 Mentors & 400 Intercessors - Give thanks for the 117 mentors who served weekly in 2008-2009 in those 7 schools.  Pray for an increase in the number of mentors from each CSA team and for those who will be recruiting them this summer. Pray that each mentor in 2009-2010 will recruit 2 intercessors who pray daily during the school year for them, their student, and the school.


  1. •10 Campus Makeover Projects – There are 2 campus makeover workdays currently scheduled for this summer.  Pray that these will be successful.  Pray also for projects reflecting the requests of the school to be scheduled and accomplished in each of the “adopted” schools in the 2009-2010 school year.


  1. •$10,000 for each school for Education –Pray that Mission Houston and CSA teams have favor in locating corporate donors who join individuals in providing $10,000 for educational enhancements for each of the 10 schools in 2009-2010.


PRAYER REQUEST #2: Raising Transformational Leaders through Faithwalking


  1. •15 to Register for the October 1 - 3 Faithwalking 101 Retreat –  Pray for leaders, the small group facilitators, and for the participants to be led by God on the journey into personal transformation that results in community transformation.


  1. •10 to Register for Faithwalking 201 and launch Mission Communities - Each Faithwalking 101 “graduate” is invited to participate in Faithwalking 201, get a coach, and commit to launching a Mission Community that will serve those in need in either their neighborhood, workplace or “3rd Place.”  Pray for 10 more of the Faithwalking 101 graduates to enroll in 201 beginning in late June/early July.


  1. •10 Couples to Participate in July 10-12 Missional Marriage Retreat – Many graduates of Faithwalking 101 have asked for some help within their marriage in order for both partners to choose to be “on mission” together.  Pray for 10 couples to participate in this first-ever Missional Marriage retreat.  Pray for Trish Taylor, a licensed marriage & family therapist (and a Faithwalking staff member) and her pastor-husband, Craig as they prepare and lead the weekend.


  1. •20 More Faithwalking Coaches - Pray for 20 more Faithwalking 201 graduates who will complete coaches training by October 2009 and become coaches for those who participate in Faithwalking 201.


PRAYER REQUEST #3: Financial Provision for Mission Houston


  1. •Last month we asked you to pray with us for $100,000 to be raised at our May 8 luncheon.  Join us in giving thanks for the generosity of those who gave or pledged $80,000 – including 71 first-time Mission Houston supporters! Pray for monthly giving by donors to be sustained $20,000 per month over the summer.


  1. •Pray for the Lord's favor in Mission Houston's application for a grant from Bank of America's Neighborhood Excellence Initiative.  The grant monies will go toward the hiring of staff positions for the training of leaders through Faithwalking and for expanding our Whole & Healthy Children initiative scope and impact.


PRAYER REQUEST #4: Organizational Growth & Effectiveness


  1. •Whole & Healthy Children initiative Coordinator – we are now ready to hire a staff member to help give leadership and oversight to the W&HC initiative.  Pray that we discern the right person from qualified applicants and that we hire this person by July.
