National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 1st, 2008

The 57th Annual National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday, May 1, 2008. The theme for this year is "Prayer! America's Strength and Shield" and is based on the verse from Psalm 28:7 which states: "The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped."

In last year's National Day of Prayer Proclamation, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, declared: "Today, Americans continue in the tradition of our forefathers by acknowledging the power of prayer in our lives. The freedom to practice our faith and to pray freely are cornerstones of our civilization and our way of life, cornerstones that for many have sustained successes and furthered the spiritual strength that have nurtured our tomorrows, that have played a formidable role in establishing the Texas of today".

Today in Houston, Martha Turner and Pastor Suzette Cadwell, co-chairs of the event, released the 2008 National Day of Prayer Guide. This guide has been designed as a devotional tool for study, reflection, and prayer leading to May 1st.
