2008 Mission Houston's Citywide Compassion Project...
April 16th, 2008
"Revive, Renew, Restore: Houston Parks Project"
April 5 & 12 were big dates for children and parks in the City of Houston! More than 250 volunteers from 15 different congregations and organizations worked to improve 9 parks across the city, answering the call that Mission Houston made to the body of Christ to serve the City of Houston's Parks and Recreation Department.
As the bright sun rose early on both Saturdays, dozens of volunteers gathered in teams through the parks to clean, paint, remove trash & fix items as instructed by the City of Houston. Simple activities like picking up trash were highly appreciated by parents and children who also gathered at the park for league sports and fun. By the end of the morning the change in the look of the parks was evident.
The Houston Parks Project is the first citywide compassion project for 2008 and is a continuation of the "Whole & Healthy Children" initiative that Mission Houston has launched where the organization seeks to bring the body of Christ together to invest in the lives of children through mentoring and days of service. These efforts embrace the core values of Mission Houston: to seek and serve the transformation of our communities and our city; or said in other way,"Changing Greater Houston for Good".
