Reaching out to dropouts...

June 20th, 2008

Mission Houston, in partnership with the City of Houston and Expectation Graduation calls for volunteers to "Reach Out to Dropouts."

As part of our commitment to helping our communities have "whole and healthy children" in every neighborhood and socioeconomic condition, Mission Houston is urging volunteers from the Body of Christ throughout greater Houston to participate in this year's "Reach Out to Dropouts" Walk. Originally a joint venture between the City of Houston and HISD, project Expectation Graduation has now been embraced by 12 school districts across our metropolitan area. Over the last three years, the Reach Out to Dropouts Walk in HISD has brought back over 4,000 dropped out students through the help of over 6,000 volunteers who, with City and School officials, walked the neighborhoods in which the students lived to show them "we are not willing to give up on you!" This year's "Reach Out to Dropouts" Walk is taking place on Saturday, September 6, 2008. In less than 4 hours on that morning, praying silently for students and their families as you join other concerned citizens in your community's school district, you could be the difference in a teenager's life to propel them towards a commitment to graduate from high school. Will you join us?

The following school districts will also participate in this year's Walk:

Aldine ISD
Alief ISD
Channelview ISD
Cy-Fair ISD
Galena Park ISD
Goose Creek ISD
Houston ISD
Lamar Consolidated ISD
North Forest ISD
Sheldon ISD
Spring Branch ISD
Stafford ISD
