Mission Houston Prayer Targets: March 2009

Thank you for your willingness to pray for the work and ministry of Mission Houston. Below you will find a brief list of current prayer requests that grow out of our goals for 2009 and beyond. We will be updating these on a monthly basis so that you can know of progress that is being made.


PRAYER REQUEST #1: Transformation of the Public Schools

Under the name "Whole and Healthy Children Initiative," Mission Houston teams have led collaborative "adoptions" of 7 schools in greater Houston in this first year of the initiative.  Please pray for:

Mentors: that the Body of Christ fulfills each school's request for the number of mentors
Mobilized Prayer: that each school is covered in weekly prayer by 100 intercessors
Makeovers: that a campus improvement work project be completed at each school before the start of the 2009-2010 school year
Money: that there be a corporate sponsor providing the bulk of $10,000 of money or in-kind gifts that enhance the educational offerings of the schools

Pray for God to pour out his blessings on each of these schools, their faculty and administration, and the students and their families, and ask Him to grant the Mission Houston teams favor in providing the above, much needed resources.


PRAYER REQUEST #2: Faithwalking

Faithwalking is the Mission Houston ministry that develops catalysts and leaders of "vision communities." These vision communities are made up of Christians who together serve those in need in their neighborhoods, workplaces, or 3rd places in ways that demonstrate the love of God and result in significant, measurable improvement in the lives of those they serve. (A 3rd place is somewhere besides a neighborhood or workplace where an individual has significant relationships.)

Ask God to raise up at least 40 new vision community leaders in 2009/2010. To reach this:

Please pray for 80 participants in this year's Faithwalking 101 Retreats. The retreat is the entry place into our training experience. We offer retreats in January, April, and October. Our next retreat is set for April 24-26, 2008 and we currently have 2 registered. Ask God to stir the hearts of at least 25 people to participate in this retreat. Pray for 80 people to complete the Faithwalking 101 retreat in 2009.

Pray for 50% of the Faithwalking 101 retreat participants to emerge from that retreat passionate about establishing a team to serve a local neighborhood, workplace or 3rd place. Jesus tells us to count the cost. Some folks attend a Faithwalking 101 retreat and decide that the cost of mobilizing the Body of Christ in their neighborhood/workplace/3rd place to be too great. We are asking God to give us at least 40 people in 2009/2010 who will complete the level 201 Faithwalking training and then launch new initiatives or join an existing initiative in their neighborhood, workplace or 3rd place. Pray for 40 new leaders to be launched in 2009.

Pray for 20 Faithwalking Coaches to complete training in 2009. For the Faithwalking participants who enter the level 201 training, we provide a coach. Assuming that most coaches can coach two people at any given time, our goal is to have 20 people who complete the coaches training. Currently we have 9 coaches. The next coaches' training is set for August 6, 2009. Pray for a full and highly effective coaching staff.

PRAYER REQUEST #3: Financial Provisions

Pray that God will provide the resources to reach our goal of raising $100,000 at our annual fundraiser, "Greater Things Are Yet to Come" on May 8, 2009.

As congregations and foundations are re-evaluating their annual giving forecasts due to the economic downturn, we are encouraged that individual giving remains the strongest and most consistent source of funding for non-profit ministries.  We have increased our fundraising goal from $70,000 to $100,000 given these realities.  Pray for the Lord's continued financial provision for Mission Houston to persevere in the work of Changing Greater Houston for Good.


PRAYER REQUEST #4: Communications

Mission Houston is working to significantly improve in the area of Communications so that our mission, vision, goals, and testimonies can be presented simply and clearly to our partners and to the public.  We seek new ways to have an impact in the city through effective information and through compelling invitations to join God's purposes and activities in Changing Greater Houston for Good". Pray for effective communication to go to all sectors and segments of the city

Pray for our communications team as they create a clear communication plan by April 15th, 2009. As the plan is implemented:

Pray for the successful production of at least 4 short videos before June 2009. We are working to produce Mission Houston testimonials for our Fundraising Gala and testimonials for the Whole and Healthy Children Initiative and Faithwalking. Pray for God honoring tools that tell the story of God's work through this ministry.

Pray for the successful launch of our new website by June 1, 2009. The web is one of our primary tools for communication. It is being updated to have much more video capacity and much clearer messaging. Pray for all obstacles that would stand in the way of this launch.

Pray for us as we develop a public relations strategy. PR is a skill set that we don't have on our staff or in our Board. We are working to develop PR media partners. Ask God to lead us to those individuals and businesses who have this skill set and would be willing to offer them to our ministry. Pray for God-honoring partnerships to be developed that will result in a clear and effective PR strategy.

PRAYER REQUEST #5: Organizational Growth & Effectiveness

Pray for God's wisdom and guidance during our organizational transition.

We continue the discipline of ensuring that our staff members are equipped and aligned for the most effective contributions in our areas of specialty.  We thank God for new and dedicated focus in the areas of Communication and Development from last year's internal realignment.  As we transition from a start-up non-profit ministry to a non-profit ministry poised for growth and expansion, we need new leaders to increase our organizational effectiveness.  Pray for the Lord to raise up the right persons to join us who are equipped and passionate for Changing Greater Houston for Good.
